Oklahoma! is a musical that of Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein ( text ) was written. The premiere of the play was in 1943 at St James Theatre on Broadway in New York. The story is based on the play Green Grow the Lilacs by Lynn Riggs. Action

Performances and achievements

Oklahoma! was five times rehearsed on Broadway. The first series from 1943 to 1948 with a total of 2122 performances at the time set a record for the Broadway dar.

The German -language premiere was in Münster on 24 August 1973.

The musical was as Oklahoma in 1955 by director Fred Zinnemann! filmed.

1998-1999 Oklahoma was! listed in a new production at the London Royal National Theatre. Here you occupied the roles for the first time with new faces on the ballet scene ( dream sequence ) dancing itself. The performers included Hugh Jackman as Curly McLain, Josefina Gabrielle as Laurey Williams, Shuler Hensley as Jud Fry, Jimmy Johnston as Will Parker, Maureen Lipman as Aunt Eller, Peter Polycarpou as Ali Hakim and Vicki Simon as Ado Annie. This production was based on another movie version in the line just mentioned. The London production was subsequently performed with a different crew, on Broadway, but was unable to repeat the success of London there.

The musical won the 1944 Pulitzer Prize, in 1976 a Grammy Award and a Tony Award in 2002.

The title song Oklahoma! is since 1953 official anthem of the U.S. state of Oklahoma.
