Okmulgee County, Oklahoma

Okmulgee County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Okmulgee.


The County is located in east-central Oklahoma and has an area of 1819 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Tulsa County, Wagoner County, Muskogee County, McIntosh County, Okfuskee County and Creek County.


Okmulgee County was formed on 16 July 1907 as original county of Muskogee country. It was named after the Native American word for sparkling water

Demographic data


According to the census in 2000 lived in Okmulgee County 39 685 people in 15,300 households and 10,694 families. The population density was 22 people per square kilometer. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males.

The median income for a household was $ 27,652, and the median income for a family was $ 33,987. Males had a median income of $ 29,935 versus $ 20,861 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,065. 14.9 percent of families and 18.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
