The ruins of the castle from the south Okor

Okoř Castle is the ruins of a Gothic hilltop castle in central Bohemia in the Czech Republic. It is located in on a rocky outcrop in the valley of Zákolanský creek in the western part of the municipality Okor. The castle belonged to the most sophisticated Burgenbauten of the 14th century.

History

Has its origins castle in the second half of the 13th century. The castle was founded before the year 1359 of the rich Old Town citizens František Rokycanský. The Rokycanský family then remained over 50 years owner of Okor. In 1421 the Hussites took possession of the castle. In the first half of the 15th century the castle was then rebuilt.

During the Thirty Years War, the castle suffered a lot. The new owners - the Jesuit College from the Prague Clementinum - have the castle rebuilt again according to their needs. After the dissolution of the Order by Pope Clement XIV in 1773, the castle administrator has to pull down the roofs and sold as building material. By 1800, half of the large tower collapsed.

In the 19th century, emergency housing were in the castle for the poor.

Plant

The castle is located in relation to the surrounding terrain in a deeper position. The dangerous for the castle hill in an easterly direction was backed with an advanced fortification. By the end of the 15th century was part of the fortifications a pond, surrounded the castle on three sides.

Culture

In the spring and summer months find historical events in the ruins instead, eg Ideas of the associations of historical sword fight. In the meadow below the castle ruins are held every year, the open-air festivals Okor se šťávou in June and Festival Okor in the second half of August instead.
