Oktyabrsky, Republic of Bashkortostan

Oktyabrsky (Russian Октябрьский ) is a county-level city with 109 474 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the autonomous republic of Bashkortostan in Russia.

Geography

The city is located on the right bank of the right Kama Creek Ik, some 160 km west of the capital Ufa Republic of the highway M 5 Measured in terms of population is Oktyabrsky the fifth largest city of Bashkortostan. Immediately west of the city runs the subject boundary between Bashkortostan and Tatarstan. The nearest town, the 17 km south west Bawly, is also located in Tatarstan.

History

Oktyabrsky was founded in 1937 as a settlement in order to open one of the country's oil and gas reserves. 1942 was the place its present name - literally " October city " - to mark the 25th anniversary of the October Revolution. 1946 Oktyabrsky received city rights. Economy and Transport

Today Oktyabrsky applies both as a center of oil production and industrial city.
