Öküzgözü

Öküzgözü is the name of an important native red grape of Turkey. It originates as a branch Bogazkere from the province of Elazig in eastern central Anatolia and is also grown in the provinces of Gaziantep and Malatya.

The large, shouldered grape vine that carry exceptionally large, round, blue-gray berries, which is reflected in the Turkish name: türk Öküzgözü called ox-eye.

Varietal wines from the Öküzgözü are at a mild tannin bright red, fruity- fresh and have aromas of cherries and raspberries on. Mostly, however, the musts of Öküzgözü be blended with those of other red wine grapes. The Bogazkere is the most frequent blending partner, in more recent times as well as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Gamay are involved in the blends.
