Olaf Glaeseker

Olaf Glaeseker (* 1961 in Oldenburg ) is a German political official and journalist. He was since he took office on 30 June 2010 until 22 December 2011, the spokesman of German President Christian Wulff.

Life and work

After high school, which he completed in 1981 at the then Hindenburg school in Oldenburg, and his military service Glaeseker studied at the German Sport University Cologne Sport Sciences. During his studies, graduating with a diploma, and after that he worked for several regional newspapers, most recently as a political correspondent in Bonn for the Augsburger Allgemeine Zeitung.

He was speaker of the CDU in Lower Saxony in 1999. With the election victory of Christian Wulff and his office as Prime Minister of Lower Saxony in 2003, he was appointed Lower Saxony government spokesman, from 2008 with the rank of Secretary. Glaeseker is largely attributed to have the then opposition leader and chairman of the CDU state Christian Wulff for the media to "open" and allow him so his rise to power. After the election of the Federal President Wulff to in 2010 Glaeseker followed him to Berlin as his press secretary.

In December 2011, Wulff came because of an assumed personal loan during his time as Prime Minister of Lower Saxony in the criticism. Crisis management was viewed as a great challenge for Glaeseker, but he learned this criticism. On 22 December Glaeseker asked for his resignation as speaker and was subsequently released from Lothar Hagebölling, the head of the Federal President, of his duties. Glaeseker was considered closest confidant Wulff.
