Olaine

Olaine / i ( German: Olav )? Is a town in the Vidzeme region of Latvia, about 20 km southwest of Riga.

A rural community was first established in 1819 with the end of serfdom. After several territorial changes in the suburb of Riga received city rights in 1967. Since 2009 form urban and rural community in administrative matters ( Olaines novads ).

In the district of the town is a military cemetery for German casualties of World War II.

There are twinned with Ödeshög Vadstena, Karlskoga (Sweden), Riihimäki (Finland), Nova Sarzyna (Poland), Narva (Estonia) and anykščiai (Lithuania).
