Olau Line

The Olau Line was a shipping company that was founded in 1956 by the Danish Shipowners' Ole Lauritzen. The shipping company owned tankers and cargo ships that were chartered. In 1973 Olau Line launched between Vlissingen and Ramsgate a ferry, on the main cars were imported to Britain. A year later, the route was Vlissingen - Sheerness opened.

1977 came Olau Line into financial difficulties and was bought out a year later to 50 % of the German shipping company TT- Line. In 1979 the TT line and the remaining shares by Ole Lauritzen and so was 100 percent owner.

In the years 1981 and 1982 Olau Line concentrated their commitment on the route Vlissingen - Sheerness and bought at the AG Weser Seebeck Werft in Bremerhaven ferries Olau Hollandia and Olau Britannia, in the years 1989 and 1990 by two like - replaced ferries - even more were. The Olau Hollandia II and Olau Britannia II were at that time the largest and most luxurious ferries in the English Channel.

The end of Olau Line

At the turn of 1993/94 saw frequent disputes between the owner of TT-Line and the OTV and the fleet works council. While TT-Line was planning a new strategic direction, union and Seebetriebsrat did not lose the influence on registered to date in Germany ships.

So planned TT-Line a flagging of the two ships and a ship exchange ( and associated team exchange) with the trains running on the Baltic Sea ships Peter Pan and Nils Holgersson. It came to the strike of the crew of the Olau Hollandia before Vlissingen.

In order not to be the plaything of unions, TT -Line decided in March 1994 to set the connection between Vlissingen and Sheerness on 15 May 1994. The ships were chartered to P & O Ferries ( P & O). Meanwhile, the so-called " Olau - Twins" are sold and leave as SNAV Lazio and SNAV Sardegna for the Italian shipping company SNAV in the Mediterranean.
