Old Botanical Garden of Göttingen University

The Botanical Gardens of the Georg- August University in Göttingen was founded in 1736 by the polymath Albrecht von Haller immediately after institution of the University.

The Old Botanical Garden

  • Herold Georg Wilhelm Johannes Schweickerdt (1903-1977), inspector of the garden from 1940 to 1964.

The New Botanical Garden

This new garden was created in 1967 as an experimental garden in the wake of the Northern Extension of the University at the B 27 in Nikolausberg under Heinz Ellenberg ( 1913-1997 ).
