Old Castle Lachlan

Old Castle Lachlan is a ruined castle on the Scottish Cowal Peninsula in Argyll and Bute unitary authority. It lies on a small cape on the banks of the sea inlet of Loch Fyne. 1971 Old Castle Lachlan was inducted into the Scottish monument lists in category A. In addition, the entire facility is classified as a Scheduled Monument.

History

The exact date of construction of Old Castle Lachlan is not known. While the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland dated the construction of the 15th century, going from one establishment to Historic Scotland in 1450 from. The castle was the seat of a line of the Clan MacLachlan. The clan was involved in the Jakobitenaufstände of 1745. In the battle of Culloden, the clan chief fell. In the aftermath of the riots, a royal warship Old Castle Lachlan shelled in 1746. Though only minor damage has been caused, the inhabitants fled and gave the castle to. From this point on Old Castle Lachlan has not been used regularly and fell over the centuries. About 50 years later, the communities built near the castle as a replacement which is also Grade II listed Castle Lachlan Castle.
