Old Dutch Capuchine

Old Dutch Capuchin is a domestic pigeons breed. The capuchin pigeons owe their name to a similarity with Capuchin monks with their brown robes and hoods. This breed belongs to the oldest breed pigeons and was already in the 15th century by sailors from Bombay ( India) introduced. Dutch painter (Jan Steen and Melchior de Hondecoeter ) have already set these birds by their pictures and paintings that first colors, black and red, the last in Blue with black napkins.

On January 18, 1959, the Dutch Capuchin Club was the occasion of the " Avicultura Show," in The Hague / Netherlands founded. Also in Germany has existed since 1966, a special club of Old Dutch Capuchins.

Pattern Description

  • Origin: imported about 1500 by Dutch sailors from India, demonstrably grown in Holland since 1661.

  • Structure: feathers tightly closed, and not too long; Cap high, erect, thick, well rounded, blending without buckling in the full Nackenbefiederung, slightly to the side of the head in the neck collar extending upstanding and without interruption, which leaves the front of the neck open. At the lower sides of neck feathers forming an oval rosette, which should extend to the neck. Front head and eyes remain uncovered by the structure.
  • Color strokes: Black, Dun, Red, Yellow, Blue with black binding, Rotfahl, Yellow Fahl Fahl blue; mackerel in black, red and yellow; monochrome white.

Red

  • Colour and drawing: all colors equally, rich and pure. The colored wings of red and yellow run out of light, the blue and pale with the purest possible sign color. The pale with intense neck, breast and binding color. With red and yellow pale greyish hens approach is allowed in the chest color. The drawing is the old form of monk drawing. White is the head to 1/2 inch below the eye, 7-12 swings, lower back, tail, belly, thighs, and after wedge plumage; slightly colored drawing behind the legs is permitted. The rest of the plumage is colored, the inside of the cap and the abdomen until just before the leg. In the tiger- the monk drawing must be recognizable.
  • Severe faults: Long or narrow body, sloping posture, open back, loose structure, soft spring, parted hackle, strongly sloping to the front cap, dark or tarnished beak, poor head drawing less than 7 and more than 12 white wings and more than 3 white swinging difference impure color; Tabby in many moldy springs.
