Old Ghan Heritage Railway and Museum

Old Ghan Heritage Railway is a railway museum in the southern outskirts of Alice Springs.

The museum has an exhibition on the history of railways in general and the history of kapspurigen Great Northern Railway and the train The Ghan in particular. The hotel grounds are mainly vehicles that were on the line in use is shown. Among vehicles manufactured from 1951 from the vice sprint Trans - Australian, who were last used in The Ghan are also located in Germany. As a museum, building a replica of the old station of " Stuart " was recreated.

The museum is located on the former route of the Great Northern Railway, about 10 km south of the passage of the former route through the pass of the MacDonald Ranges, located immediately south of the town center of Alice Springs. This pass is now used by the new, exported to standard gauge Central Australian Railway. There, the narrow-gauge track was removed. On the south extending distance remaining to Mt Ertiva was through the museum a museum traffic offered with historic vehicles - both steam and diesel traction. After the line was so strong washed away after a rain, that it is no longer passable and a repair to 4 million A $ is estimated, but there is no money, even this radical operation is probably history.
