The Royal Prussian Railway Station to Kupferdreh in Essen- Kupferdreh was opened in 1898 at the Prince William Railway.

The station building is in the area of the branch of the former Ruhr Valley Railway, which led thence along the north bank of the Ruhr and the Baldeneysees until after Ruhrort. This building was put into service on 27 July 1898. The two-storey brick house was in accordance with the then- representational needs decoratively designed on the sides, grouped by the different sized windows differently and decorated the lobby entrance in the round arch style with ocher-colored sandstone. Some of the decor is available in the waiting rooms, the stucco is to be mentioned in the waiting room of the first class especially, which was renovated for its current use as a great gastronomic dining room.

The front platform where today the historic Hespertalbahn begins her journey belonged formerly to Ruhrtalbahn which is about 200 meters to the south crossed the Ruhr. Before that branched off the so-called Hespertalbahn or Pörtingsiepenbahn that ran on the south bank of the Ruhr. In Hespertal since 1857 there have been a narrow gauge railway with horse operation that served the mines as a means of transport in Velbert room. The mine Pörtingsiepen in Essen- Fischlaken was connected later, and so in 1877 the route of Kupferdreh rebuilt after Hesperbrück to standard gauge. A remaining narrow gauge piece by Hefel was decommissioned in 1918. Also, there were people between 1927 and the closure of the colliery Pörtingsiepen 1973 for a mine workforce. 1975 saved the Association for the Preservation of the V. Hespertalbahn the route from demolition.

The trains of the line S9 S-Bahn Rhein- Ruhr drive past without stopping at the old building in order to comply with the center located closer to Kupferdreher breakpoint.
