Old Parliament House, Athens

The National Historical Museum (Greek Εθνικό Ιστορικό Μουσείο, Ethniko Istoriko Mousio ) in Athens has exhibits of Greek history in the old parliament building in Athens. It is sponsored by the Historical and Ethnological Society Founded in 1882, Greece ( IEEE).

Collection

The collection includes the time of the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman Empire in 1453 to the modern history of Greece. Over 120 years of rich material was collected. It also includes an archive of documents, manuscripts and photographs and a library.

Building

The museum building is the former Parliament Building. ( † 1875 * 1807) designed in 1858, instrumental in the design was the Athenian architect Panagiotis Kalkos The neo-classical building in the Stadiou Street 13 was by François -Louis- Florimond Boulanger. By 1935 the Greek Parliament was held here. The plenary is unchanged, prepared the other rooms for museum purposes.

Presentation

The exhibition is arranged in chronological order and consistently labeled in Greek and some English, but didactic little. For German speaking visitors a leaflet will be made available that very briefly describes the contents of each room. To some extent, relic -like objects, particularly from the War of Independence in the early 19th century, issued and memorabilia of kings and politicians. And the underlying political and historical development, however, is not explained. Thus, the exhibition acts on visitors who are not familiar with the history of Greece, as a national history museum.

The exhibition is open daily, except Monday, from 9-14 clock.
