Old pumping station (Bremen)

The old pumping station in Bremen- Findorff at the Salzburg and Bavaria the road is a disused sewage pumping station, which has since served as a museum for art and cultural history of sanitation in Bremen.

History

Building

From the main pumping station I, today Old pumping station, the wastewater from the city of Bremen were pumped out from 1915 to 1994. The industry historically valuable plant has been built according to the plans of the building department Bremen from 1913 to 1915 in the age of historicism, but rather in the style of New Objectivity with baroque- elements.

The pumping station mastered two-thirds of the Bremen effluents were pumped into the Weser; at the beginning only after gross precleaning, later by the sewage treatment plant in Seehausen. After the commissioning of a new pumping station the old plant was shut down in 1994.

Conservation

In 1995, the main pumping station I was put with the old pumping station ( the engine house ), a hall and the house and wash house under monument protection. See also: List of cultural monuments in Bremen- Findorff.

Museum

With financial and moral support from the hanseWasser Bremen GmbH, the main pumping station I was converted into a museum for art and cultural history of sanitation.

The association " Old pumping station ", founded in 1997 by former employees, operates the building as a museum and event venue. The club was awarded in November 2010 with the Bremen historic preservation award for his many years of volunteer work for the preservation and expansion of the facility. Club and hanseWasser currently developing a utilization plan for increased cultural use of the facility.

In addition to visiting the machine shop and an exhibition on the history of sewage and waste water technology, the entry in the " Underworld" to an underground sewer is possible.
