The Oldenzaal railway station is a railway station in the Dutch city of Oldenzaal, near the border. The station was opened on 18 October 1865 the railway line Almelo salt mountains.

The station building

The first station building is a unique design and was opened simultaneously with the railway line. The construction is similar to Bad Bentheim Station and the Almelo railway station. In 1884 and 1887 the building was remodeled and the building was enlarged it. Also, the gable was paved.

Name

From 1890 - to 1935 was called the station officially 'Station Oldenzaal AS '. The letters stood for Spoorweg - Maatschapij Almelo salt mountains. This name was necessary because in Oldenzaal by the Lokaalspoorwegmaatschapij Enschede - the station was built Oldenzaal Oldenzaal EO.

The second station building

The first station building burned down on 14 July 1953. In 1957, a new station building was opened. For a long time Oldenzaal an important border station. After the opening of the borders, most customs activities were stopped. From the 1960s, most international trains already considered no longer in Oldenzaal and the restaurant was closed. Only a short time later held no international trains more in Oldenzaal. A large part of the station is therefore no longer used. The old restaurant is used again to some extent. Since December 2010, the Grensland Express stops every hour in Oldenzaal.
