Oldham County (Kentucky)
Oldham County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is La Grange. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in the north of Kentucky, bounded on the northwest by the State of Indiana, separated by the Ohio River and has an area of 509 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Trimble County, Henry County, Shelby County and Jefferson County.
History
Oldham County was formed on December 15, 1823 from parts of Henry County, Jefferson County and Shelby County. It was named after Colonel Williamson Simpson Oldham, who was killed in Indian battles.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Oldham County 46 178 people in 14,856 households and 12,196 families. The population density was 94 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 93.62 percent White, 4.21 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.44 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.55 percent from other races groups; 0.97 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.30 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 14,856 households out of which 44.1 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 71.5 percent were married couples living together, 7.8 percent were single mothers, 17.9 percent were non-families, 14.9 percent of all households and 4.8 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.17.
Based on the county the population was spread from 27.4 percent population under 18 years, 6.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 33.1 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 7.0 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 114.0 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were statistically 117.9 males.
The median income for a household in the 63 229 U.S. dollars, and the median income for a family was $ 70,495. Males have a median income of $ 46,962, women $ 28,985. The per capita income was $ 25,374. 2.9 percent of families and 4.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 4.5 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years old and 6.0 percent are 65 years old.
