Oldtimer Festival

The Oldtimer Festival was a motorsport competition, which was organized by the DAMC 05 at the Nürburgring from 1983 to 2010.

The official title was International Oldtimer Festival at the " Jan- Wellern Cup " at the Nürburgring, colloquially the event also " Jan Wellem " was called.

Character of the event

The Oldtimer Festival was a three-day racing event for historic cars, motorcycles and sidecars.

The event was marked by the vintage classes of the post-war years up to the recent classics. There vehicles were presented in racing that connect many viewers with its youth. The paddock was open to all viewers and allows direct contact to the race participants. To represent each typical scene, the paddock was thematically arranged according to the race series and clubs.

In the automotive classes were mainly after the DMSB Circuit Regulations, ie "real race " started. The historic motorcycles and sidecars started the other hand consistently in uniformity runs after DMSB Regulations for uniformity runs. Uniformity runs are not designed for the attainment of speed and conserve the historic rolling stock.

Last mixed racing event

Until the 1970s, mixed events were still often encountered with automobile and motorcycle races. As a result of the security debate and the associated tightening in the track safety requirements, it was for the organizers but still difficult and expensive to organize mixed events. The Oldtimer Festival was the last great German racing event of its kind with the approval of the governing body DMSB.

History

By 1982, the DAMC 05 held at the Nurburgring, the " circuit race for the Jan Wellern Cup ". In this circuit racing event started yet "modern" and historic vehicles.

, 1983, during the construction of the Grand Prix circuit for the first "pure" Oldtimer Festival at the Nürburgring Nordschleife instead. It started not only vintage cars, but also motorcycles and sidecars.

1984 was the Oldtimer Festival at the opening ceremonies of the new Grand Prix circuit of the Nürburgring. The event has been extended to three days.

1990 organized by the DAMC 05 with the ADMV in the context of the vintage festival the first round of the East German championships of Formula Easter and the moon in the Federal Republic of Germany.

In 1995 the historic "Formula 1" Championship FIA.

2008 Oldtimer Festival was held for the last time in the summer.

2009 was the event because of scheduling conflicts in the classic car calendar.

2010 the 27 Oldtimer Festival from 10 to 12 September 2010 again at the Nürburgring instead. In the context of the vintage festival 2010, tradition and the name of the ADAC 1000 km race was continued. Compared to previous years, it was 2010, however, at an event with older vehicles and therefore was given the "classic".

Starters were well-known riders like Daniel Schrey, Frank Schmickler, Patrick Simon, Olaf Manthey, Roland Asch, Claudia Hurtgen and Peter Oberdorfer. The winners were Daniel Schrey and Wolfgang Pohl on a Porsche Carrera RS.

2011 merger with Eifelrennen

Since 2011, the ADAC Eifel race, the organizer of the classic car festival, the Düsseldorf local club ADAC DAMC 05, aligned. As at the Oldtimer Festival automobiles and motorcycles will start the Eifel race for the first time.

Jan- Wellern Cup

The Jan- Wellern Cup is after the date in Dusseldorf popularly known as " Jan Wellem " Johann Wilhelm von Pfalz- Neuburg (1658-1716), Elector of the Palatinate, named.

The automotive industry uses this prize will be awarded to the winner with the largest distance to the runner-up.

Since the historic motorcycles and sidecars after the DMSB regulations start for uniformity runs, gets here the " smoothest " of all classes of the Jan Wellern Cup.
