Ole Torvalds

Ole Torvalds (* August 4, 1916 in Tammisaari, † February 8, 1995 in Turku ) was a Swedish poet finland, journalist and translator. He is the father of Nils Torvalds and grandfather of Linus Torvalds. His full name was Ole Torvalds Elis Saxberg, but he was also, according to his father, Toivo T. Karanko called Karanko. 1935, when he moved to study in Helsinki, he changed his name to Torvalds.

Life

Ole Torvalds began his career as a journalist as the editor of the daily newspaper Västra Nyland in Ekenäs, where he remained from 1941 until the end of World War II. In 1944 he was awarded the Literature Prize of the Svenska Dagbladet ( the price divided Harry Martinson, Lars Ahlin and Elly Jannes ). He was married to Marta von Wendt and got with her three children. In Kokkola Torvalds worked since the fall of 1947 as editor of the newspaper Österbottningen. In the summer of 1948, the marriage ended in divorce with his wife and after re- marriage he had two more children. A little later, Torvalds was an editor of the newspaper Åbo Underrättelser whose editor in chief, he was from 1958 to 1967 and a cultural editor from 1968 to 1981. In 1978 he received an honorary doctorate from the Åbo Akademi.
