Oleg Goncharenko

Oleg Goncharenko Georgjewitsch (Russian Олег Георгиевич Гончаренко; born August 18, 1931 in Kharkiv, † December 16, 1986 in Moscow) was a Soviet speed skater.

Career

Goncharenko was already on his international debut in 1953 in Helsinki as the first skaters of the Soviet Union all-around world champion. 1954 and 1955 he won the silver medal each, before he could win his second title in 1956 in Oslo. 1958 in Helsinki he won for the third and final time at the World Championships. In the years 1957 and 1958 he also became European champion.

At the 1956 Olympic Games in Cortina d' Ampezzo Goncharenko won over 5000 meters and 10,000 meters bronze medal.
