Oleg Romantsev

Oleg Ivanovich Romanzew (Russian Олег Иванович Романцев, scientific transliteration Oleg Ivanovich Romancev; born January 4, 1954 in Gavrilovskoje, Ryazan Oblast ) is a Russian football coach and former football player. He is the most successful Russian coach of the 1990s.

Romanzew played in the 1970s until the mid- 1980s at Spartak Moscow left-back and was at times captain. In 1979 he was at Spartak Soviet masters. The Soviet national team he won in 1980 at the Olympics, the bronze medal, two years later he was standing in the 1982 World Cup squad but did not play. Mid-1980s, he had to end his career due to a back injury.

After a career as a player he moved into coaching. After he gained his first experience in some smaller clubs, he took over in 1989 as coach at Spartak Moscow. Romanzew led Spartak to eight Russian league titles and four cup victories. Since 1993, he was also president of the association. In June 2003 he was released after persistent failure after he had already lost the presidency.

1994 Romanzew was coach of the Russian national team for the first time. After the disappointing showing at Euro 1996 he was released in 1998 but then re-appointed to the Russian national team coach. Although Russia failed to qualify for Euro 2000, he remained in office and managed with the Russian team to qualify for the 2002 World Cup. After the dismissal at Spartak its next coach stations FK Saturn Ramenskoje were ( from September 2003 to December 2004 ) and FK Dynamo Moscow (January to May 2005). In 2006, he worked as an assistant coach at FC Nika Moscow, a club from the second division football (Russia). Since April 2009 Romanzew has been with Spartak Moscow again in the function of a full-time consultant.
