Oleg
Oleg is a male first name, which is mainly used in Russia and in Ukraine, dating back to the Germanic name Helgi ( Helge German or Helgoland ). The name was transferred to the East Slavic of the Varangian ruling classes of Kievan Rus and became known especially by Prince Oleg. Oleg ( Олег, correctly stressed on the second syllable: [ ʌl ɛk ʲ ] ) is Russian, while Ukrainian form of the name Oleh ( Олег [ ɔlɛx ] ) and the Belarus Aleh ( Алег [ ʌl ɛx ʲ ] ) is. The Latvian form of the name is Oļegs. The similar-sounding Polish Olek, however, does not belong here, but is a term of endearment to Aleksander.
The female form of the name is Olga.
