Oleniy Island

Oleni (Russian Остров Олений, Ostrov Oleni, dt " Reindeer Island ") is a 1197.4 km ² large Russian island of the Arctic Ocean belong to the southern Kara Sea. Administratively, the uninhabited island for Rajon Tasowski heard in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District in the north of the North Siberian Tyumen Oblast.

Geographical location

Oleni is located around 2 km north- west of the coast of belonging to the Asian mainland Gydan Peninsula, from which it is separated by the Oleni Strait, and about 30 km southwest of Sibiryakov Island ( the Krasnoyarsk region belonging ), from which it eastward through the about conducting the Jenisseigolf Owzyna Strait is separated, and east of the Jawai Peninsula, from which it is separated by the northern part of the minimally there about 38.5 kilometers wide Gydanbucht. Landscape, fauna and climate

The coast of Oleni is mostly flat and hardly broken, but traversed particularly in the southeast and south by small bays. In the north, it is preceded by a small sandbar.
