Olga Knipper

Olga Knipper - Chekhova Leonardowna of (Russian Ольга Леонардовна Книппер; * 9.jul / September 21 1868greg in Glasow, .. † March 22, 1959 in Moscow) was a Russian actress.

Life

Knipper was one of the 39 original members of the present-day Moscow Chekhov theater when it was founded in 1898 by Konstantin Stanislavsky. Knipper was the first to both Arcadina in The Seagull (1898), played Masha in The Three Sisters and Madame Ranevskaya in The Cherry Orchard ( 1904). With Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, the author of these pieces, she was married since 1901. Knipper - Chekhova played the Ranevskaya a second time in 1943 in the 300th performance of The Cherry Orchard. The actress Olga Chekhova was her niece, the composer Lev Konstantinovich Knipper her nephew.
