The Olivrückenorganist ( Euphonia gouldi ) is a small passerine bird in the family of Tanagers and the genus of the organist. It comes in two subspecies (E. g gouldi and E. g praetermissa ) in the Caribbean lowlands and foothills from southern Mexico to western Panama ago.
Description
The length is 9.5 cm and weight 12 g The male has a bright olive green top, a yellow forehead and a gelbumrandeten reddish-brown belly. The female has a less glossy top as the male, a maroon forehead, a yellow underside and a reddish brown belly spot. The young birds are colored darker and duller and have a olive green underside. It received its scientific name in honor of the British ornithologist John Gould.
Habitat
Its habitat is moist forests with a high secondary tree growth and adjacent bush clearings, usually at a height of 750 m, sometimes up to 1000 m.
Reproduction
The spherical shell nest with a side entrance is hidden behind epiphytes and mosses from two to eleven feet high in a tree. The nest usually consists of three white eggs with brown spots.
