Oriolus melanotis viridifuscus

The Sundapirol ( Oriolus melanotis, formerly Oriolus viridifuscus ) is a species of bird in the family of orioles.

Occurrence and habitat

The Sundapirol occurs only in the Timor and Wetar Endemic Bird Area. Its population is not threatened on Timor, Wetar, Semau and roti it is sparsely distributed, but on Atauro he comes in the mountain forests in the vicinity of the Mano Côco, at altitudes above 750 m are common. In closed-canopy forests to sea level it is widespread and commonplace. The shouts of copies on Atauro differ from those of O. m. melanotis who lives on Timor, Roti and Semau. Also typical for the males of this subspecies feathers could not be observed on Atauro. The Sundapirole on Atauro are therefore either O. m. finschi or a subspecies not yet described.
