Oliver C. Wiley

Oliver Cicero Wiley ( born January 30, 1851 in Troy, Pike County, Alabama, † October 18, 1917 ) was an American businessman and politician (Democratic Party). He was the brother of U.S. Representative Ariosto Appling Wiley.

Career

Oliver Cicero Wiley attended the community school. Later, he spent five years as a member of the City Council of Troy (Alabama ). He had 1884-1886 presided over the Democratic Executive Committee of Pike County. Then he was in 1888 a member of the Democratic State Executive Committee. Wiley was 1887-1892 president of the Alabama Midland Railway when it was built. He was also Chairman of the Board of the State Normal College, Director of Farmers & Merchants' National Bank and Vice President and Managing Director of Standard Chemical & Oil Co. in Troy. Wiley was elected to the 60th Congress, there to fill the vacancy that was created by the death of his brother. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives on 3 November 1908 to 3 March 1909. Wiley died 1917 in Troy and was buried there in the Oakwood Cemetery.
