Oliver Rathkolb

Oliver Rath Kolb ( born November 3, 1955 in Vienna) is an Austrian historian and university professor of contemporary history at the University of Vienna.

Career

According to the studies of history and law at the University of Vienna (1978 Doctorate in Law. ) Rath piston completed doctoral studies Dr. phil. same place (1982).

From 1985 to 2003 he was scientific director of the Bruno Kreisky Archives Foundation. Since February 1992, his function includes there also those of the science coordinator of the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue.

From September 1984 to May 2005 he was a research assistant at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for History and Society, from January 1994 its co-director. From June 2005 to 2008 he was director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for European History and Public Spheres.

In May 1993, his teaching permit as a lecturer in modern history with special emphasis on contemporary history and an assignment to the Institute of Contemporary History at the University of Vienna was granted. He was from the federal government commissioned a historical study of the American arms depots in Austria and allegedly financed by CIA paramilitary organization of Franz Olah ( OeWSGV ) to lead in 1996. From 2005 to 2007 he held a professorship at the time the Institute of Contemporary History at the University of Vienna. Since March 1, 2008, Rath piston University Professor at the University of Vienna and since October 1, 2008 The Executive Board of the Institute of Contemporary History at the University.

Since October 2009 he is speaker of the Initiative Groups " European Historical dictatorships and Transformation Research " of the University of Vienna and since February 2009 Member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the "House of European History " at the European Parliament. Since 2006 he is Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Theodor -Körner- Fund for the Promotion of Science and Art.

From 2000 to 2001 he held a research professorship at the Schumpeter " Center for European Studies " at Harvard University. In the summer semester 2001 he was a visiting professor at the Institute of Contemporary History at the University of Vienna, in the summer semester 2003 Visiting Professor at the Department of History at the University of Chicago. Teaching positions he holds at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, the University of Salzburg and Vienna to programs at Duke University and the University of Maryland.

Since 2002, he serves as managing editor of " time- history " and co-founder, co-editor and editorial board member of the interdisciplinary journal " Media and Time." He writes constantly expert on contemporary issues for renowned national and international media.

Oliver Rath Kolb is the author of four monographs, numerous anthologies and over 100 scientific papers in national and international trade journals and anthologies. In 2005 he was awarded the Danubia Nonfiction Book Award Danubius and the Bruno Kreisky Prize for the Political Book for " The paradoxical republic."
