Oliver Ressler

Oliver Ressler ( b. 1970 in Knittel, Styria ) is an Austrian artist.

Life

Ressler is thematic exhibition projects, working in a public space and videos on the topics of capitalism, forms of resistance, social alternatives, racism and global warming. He lives in Vienna.

Work

Ressler project " Alternative Economics, Alternative Societies " has been shown in 21 exhibitions, including solo exhibitions at Galerija Skuc, Ljubljana, 2003; Art Space Lüneburg, 2004; Centro Cultural Conde Duque, MediaLabMadrid, Madrid, 2004; Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka, 2005; Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center, Istanbul, 2005, Museum of Contemporary Art, Novi Sad and Museum of Contemporary Art, Belgrade, 2005. " Alternative Economics, Alternative Societies " is also the title of his publication, of Wyspa Institute of Art in Gdansk in 2007 was published, and in the German version was released in 2008 under the title " alternative economies, alternative societies" in Promedia Verlag, Vienna.

Several projects have been developed in co-operation. The project " Boom! " Shows central contradictions of global capitalism ( David Thorne ), " European Corrections Corporation " the phenomenon of privatization of prisons ( with Martin Krenn ) and " What Would It Mean To Win? " The protests against the G8 summit in Heiligendamm ( with Zanny Begg ). In collaboration with Dario Azzellini the films were " Venezuela from Below " (2004) and "5 Factories - Worker Control in Venezuela ", the 2006 6- channel video installation at the Berkeley Art Museum was shown in the U.S..

Ressler participated in 150 exhibitions, including at the biennials in Prague (2005), Seville (2006 ), Moscow (2007) and Taipei (2008). For the Taipei Biennial 2008, he also curated an exhibition on the anti-globalization movement entitled "A World Where Many Worlds Fit".

His video " This is what democracy looks like! " In 2002 awarded the first prize in the International Media Art Award of the ZKM.
