Olli Rehn

Olli Rehn [ ɔl ː i ː rɛ n] ( born March 31, 1962 in Mikkeli ) is a Finnish politician and since 2004 a member of the European Commission. Since February 2010 he has been Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs at the Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso. He belongs to the Finnish Centre Party, this is organized in Europe in the liberal ELDR.

Academic career

Rehn studied from 1982 economics, international relations and journalism, first at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, then at the University of Helsinki, where he graduated in 1989 with a master's degree in political science. In 1996 he passed a PhD. at the University of Oxford, Department of International Political Economy ago, his doctoral dissertation was titled: Corporatism and Industrial Competitiveness in Small European States.

From 2002 to 2003 he was professor at the Faculty of Political Science and Research Director of the Center for European Studies, University of Helsinki.

Policy

Olli Rehn was from 1987 to 1989 chairman of the youth wing of the Centre Party, from 1988, also deputy chairman of the Center and a member of the Helsinki City Council. He held until 1994 Both offices. At the age of 30 years Rehn worked as an economic adviser to the Prime Minister of Finland. From 1991 to 1995 he was a member of the Finnish Parliament. Private life

Rehn played football since his childhood, when he was Mikkelin Palloilijat between 1979 and 1983 in the first team. 1996/97 he was president of the Finnish football league.

Rehn speaks Finnish, English, French and Swedish, and he understands German.
