Olmsted Falls is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,962 inhabitants at the census in 2000.

History

The entire range of Olmsted Township was originally part of the Connecticut Western Reserve. In 1806 the township was, from which the present-day North Olmsted and Olmsted Falls and more developed areas, for $ 30,000 to Aaron Olmstead, a wealthy partner of the Connecticut Land Company, sold.

The land was settled in 1814 and was first called Kingston, later Lenox. In 1829 donated Charles Olmstead, son of Aaron Olmstead, a library here, the first west of the Allegheny Mountains. To thank the township was renamed after the name of the Olmstead family. Later, the "a" was dropped from the name and the family called the future " Olmsted ".

Since 1820, the force of the waterfalls at the western tributary of Rocky River through a grain mill and a sawmill was used. Soon a settlement formed around this building in the center of the township. The community was founded in 1843 as Norris Falls, but renamed two years later in Olmsted Falls.

Education

The Olmsted Falls City School District serves four schools in the city with around 3,650 students. The steady growth of the population of the city of Olmsted Falls also brings growing number of students with it. To maintain the recognized good quality of their school system, the city needs to invest in the expansion of the four schools in the school district. These are the Falls- Lenox Primary School, the Fitch Intermediate School, the Olmsted Falls Middle School and the Olmsted Falls High School. Students come not only from Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and but from the from parts of Berea (Ohio ) as well as parts of the Columbia townships.

The school district is connected with the Polaris Joint Vocational School, a vocational high school. This is in northern Ohio and for the cities of Berea, Brooklyn (Ohio ), Fairview, North Olmsted and Strongsville responsible. Students can visit the colleges and universities in nearby Cleveland, but also colleges in Elyria, Berea and Oberlin after graduating from high school.

The school colors are blue and gold and the mascot of the sports teams is a bulldog. Particularly successful is the football team that won the state championship the Ohio High School Athletic Association at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massilon in 2000. Also, the basketball team of Olmsted Falls Bulldogs won the championships of his league from 1995 to 2008 (except 2006).
