Olney is a settlement in Montgomery County in the U.S. state of Maryland and is 35 km north of Washington, DC. The place was a small village until the 1960s and is now one of about 33,000 inhabitants in an area of 33.6 km ². Under the name of Mechanicsville the village was founded around 1800. Later the settlement was renamed in Olney, Olney and 1951 was the post office.
