Olof Tempelman

Olof Tempelman Samuel ( born February 21, 1745 in the parish Källstad, Östergötland County Province; † July 27, 1816 in Stockholm) was a Swedish architect. He is considered an important representative of the Gustavian style.

Olof Tempelman began in 1763 to study theology and humanities in Uppsala, but then turned to the natural sciences. In 1769 he was hired as a copyist at the Building Department, where he became interested in architecture. In 1779 he became a professor at the Art Academy. Following his appointment, he traveled to Italy, France and Germany, where he took up neo-classical influences. In the following years he developed into an important representative of the Gustavian style. His main works include the Pavilion of Gustav III. in the Haga Park (1787 ), which became a model for later mansions, the gymnasium of Härnösand ( 1785 ), the Botanikum in Uppsala (1787 ) and the Church of Forsmark (1793). Further works are the mansion Hellekis et al 1799 he was appointed court architect.

Olof Tempelman married in 1782 Britta Elisabet Gylenstam first wife, who died two years later, and 1804 Dorothea Catherina Pagenkopff in second marriage. A daughter from the first marriage died in infancy, and of the five children from his second marriage survived only three girls the childhood age.
