Olst-Wijhe

( Listen? / I ) Olst - Wijhe is a municipality in the Netherlands, Overijssel province, with 17,758 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The parish was formed on 1 January 2001 by the merger of the municipalities and Olst Wijhe. Besides Olst and the north of it Wijhe include several smaller towns to the municipality, which is 118 km ². The community is located along the IJssel between Deventer and Zwolle.

History

The place Olst is the smaller of the two main centers and slightly more industrial in character. Wijhe was a rather conservative farming village since time immemorial. Thus, there are some differences between the parts of the municipality. Because of the pressure to the desired area reform both places still closed 2001 on a community together.

Economy and Transport

In Olst Wijhe and there are some companies in the meat industry. In addition, agriculture and tourism is important. Otherwise, live in the community, many commuters.

The trains Deventer - Zwolle keep in Olst and in Wijhe.

Attractions

Scattered over the whole community are many small estates ( landgoederen ). Its parks and forests are freely accessible in general the hikers. Along the IJssel nature area De Duursche Waarden is scenic.
