Oltingen in spring

Oltingen is a municipality in the district of Sissach the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

The farming village Oltingen lies on 576 meters above sea level. M. on the river and at the foot of Ergolz Schafmatt.

Coat of arms

The municipality performs its coat of arms only since 1943. It shows on a golden background a black oblique bar on three silver horseshoes with black nails. The coat of arms ties in with the earlier meaning Oltingens as a starting point for a pass traversal, the colors are reminiscent of the former membership of half the village to rule Kienberg.

History

In the Middle Ages, the boundary between the Sisgau and the Frickgau ran along the Ergolz. So you parted Oltingen, the 1241 is first documented in two parts. The right bank half belonged as a fief of the Counts of Habsburg- run castle to rule Kienberg. The left bank half was 1372 farnsburgisch and came in 1461 to the city of Basel. The kienbergische Oltingen changed hands several times until it finally fell in Basel in the 17th century.
