Olympian (Greek: nike = victory ) is in Ancient Greek, originally for a winner at the Olympic Games.

In deviation from a strictly defined etymologically meaning sometimes all athletes participating in the Olympic Games are now colloquially referred to as and equated with Olympian Olympian. This does not reflect the actual meaning of the word.
