The Olympic Stadium ( National Sports Complex) in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh was built in the years 1962 to 1964. Architect of the stadium is Molyvann Vann, who is also responsible for many other buildings in the city.

The stadium is located in a sports complex, in which, besides the football stadium with 50,000 seats, a badminton hall, a hall for ball games and a swimming pool include. The facility is located at the intersection of Charles de Gaulle Blvd. and Sihanouk Blvd.

Originally, the stadium had been designed for the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games in 1963, but which did not even took place at that time because of political problems in Cambodia. 1966 was the Olympic Stadium, the venue of the GANEFO (Games Of The New Emerging Forces). It also played a role in qualifying for the World Cup 1966, Australia, and North Korea fought out their back and leg there due to its considerable political isolation of North Korea.

In November 2007, the volleyball teams of disabled people wore in ball sports hall from their World Championship.

During the Civil War, the stadium was rededicated in a military base; from here left the last helicopter of the U.S. Operation Eagle Pull shortly before the invasion of the Khmer Rouge Phnom Penh. After the takeover of the city, the stadium was used briefly for military parades.

The Olympics, however, never took place in Phnom Penh. Today, the building is in a dilapidated condition. Nevertheless, it is widely used by the locals.

It is often thought about a restoration project. Due to lack of funds, these plans were but so far always discarded.
