Olympic Stadium (Seoul)

The Olympic Stadium Seoul ( in Hangul: 서울 종합 운동장 on Hanja: 서울 综合 运动场) in the South Korean capital Seoul is an athletics stadium, which is located in the southwest of the city and is part of the Sports Complex Jamsil.

History

The Olympic Stadium was built primarily for the Olympic Summer Games 1988. There, the athletics competitions in the games were played. At this time, the stadium had a capacity of 100,000 seats.

Architect of the stadium was Kim Geun Swoo. The curves of the stadium to symbolize vases of the Joseon Dynasty.

Today, the stadium has a capacity of nearly 70,000 seats and great effort to stand up to the Soccer World Cup 2002 newly built stadiums.
