The Olympic Stadium Antwerp in the Belgian city of Antwerp was the main stadium for the Olympic summer games in 1920 and at that time had a capacity of 40,000 spectators. The plant was then the scene of the opening and closing ceremonies and competitions in athletics, football, weightlifting, hockey, modern pentathlon, horse riding, rugby, tug of war, and gymnastics.

The stadium today

Over the years, the sprawling sports complex was converted to a pure football stadium by several reconstructions. It is located in a residential area in the south west of the city. The football club Beerschot AC plays its home games from here. It is also known under the name Kiel Stadium or Beerschot Stadium. Today's ground capacity is in league games at 12,771 seats and 12,206 spectators for international matches are allowed. 2001/2002 there was the last major work on the stadium as the one standing in remodeled in the grandstand seats. Thus the capacity of the venue fell by 2,000 seats.

Future

On the basis of the former industrial area Petroleum Zuid, the Flemish government plans to build a new football stadium with 25,000 seats. In the arena then to the two football clubs Antwerp Beerschot AC and FC Antwerp play.
