  • Lock Type: cloth focal plane shutter with timing of approximately 60 seconds to 1/1000 sec, horizontal descending
  • Exposure Metering: The camera has an automatic timer. The exposure at the Olympus OM- 2 occurs through the lens ( TTL); ( also called " dynamic auto " control called "off the film" OTF), thus enabling a correct exposure even with long exposures as well as in the micro and macro area at shutter is open, the light reflected by the film is measured. Center-weighted metering (especially at short exposure times ); Exposure Compensation / - 2 stops in 1/3-stop increments.
  • Flash: removable flash shoe on the prism; Sync speed 1/60 sec.; PC socket. Using flash cable can be triggered a maximum of 9 Olympus T- flashes simultaneously and auto controlled dynamically, ie the amount of light output of the flash units is determined dynamically with the lens open by the OM 2.

Olympus OM -2n

In 1979 Olympus OM -1 and at the OM -2 minor improvements, the improved models were given a n for "new" readjusted. In the OM -2n in the viewfinder, a flash-ready indicator on the time scale and a display for entering an exposure compensation have been realized with the time scale. Instead of the flash shoe type 2, the camera with the flash shoe type 4 was delivered. Even the somewhat cumbersome reset has been simplified, it is sufficient for the OM -2n, the main switch of the camera to the position to press "Check / Reset".

Differences to cameras from other manufacturers

Compared to other professional cameras of its time was the OM- 2 is very small and light, especially if one compares it with the time the professional market dominant Canon F- 1 and the Nikon F2. A change seeker has the OM -2 compared with their counterparts from Canon and Nikon do not, hence the Changing the focusing screen is similar to the Nikon - FM by the bayonet. To compensate for the absence of the exchange viewfinder, Olympus supplied from an angle viewfinder.

Instead of the other manufacturers then usual memory measurement, measures the OM -2 in AE mode (when the camera labeled as a car) autodynamically, so the exposure can not be lengthened or shortened during the closing sequence. Finally, the OM -2 is the first professional SLR that can also control the camera flash TTL, which is interpreted from a great advance over other cameras. In terms of fastest shutter speed for the OM -2 must, however, admit defeat, Canon and Nikon realized that attracted the 1/2000 sec, while Olympus as a fastest shutter speed is 1/1000 seconds chose. Only the closures of the OM -3 and OM -4 were designed to 1/ 2000.

Own Path Olympus went with the preview button; this is not as usually located on the camera body, but the lens.
