Olzai

Olzai is a small village on the slope of a valley of western Barbagie Ollolai, in the province of Nuoro in the Italian region Sardinia, with 888 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012). Olzai located 40 km southwest of Nuoro. Borders the following municipalities: Austis, Nughedu Santa Vittoria (OR), Ottana, Sarule, Sedilo (OR), Sorradile (OR) and Teti.

Attractions

  • In the Church of Santa Barbara after a plague (1477 ) depends commissioned archaic retablo della Peste. Of the altarpieces whose diaphragm form a gable roof, it is the only preserved. It is the work of that unknown artist (possibly that of Antonio Cavaro or his son Lorenzo) which also exhibited in the Pinakothek of Cagliari parts of an altarpiece from the country church of Santa Maria di Sibiola be attributed at Serdiana.
  • The dolmen or the giants grave S'Ena ' e sa Vacca is located directly above the road Sedilo - Olzai.
