Om on the middle reaches at Kuibyshev

Catchment area of the Irtysh and Om history ( Омь )

The 1091 km long Om (Russian Омь, fem, German and mask ) is a right tributary of the Irtysh River in the West Siberian Plain (Russia, Asia).

Course

The Om entfließt in the southeast part of the Wassjugan swamps in a Hühe of 144 m the small lake Omskoje ( "Om Lake "). The origin lies in the north of Novosibirsk Oblast whose territory it flows first in a south-westerly direction west, near the border with Tomsk Oblast, about 160 km as the crow northwest of Novosibirsk. In the middle reaches of the river reaches the Omsk Oblast and flows predominantly in a westerly direction through the north of the Barabasteppe. Especially in the middle reaches it meanders strongly, and finally empties into the river named after the city of Omsk million at 69 m in the Irtysh. In the middle reaches of the river are the towns Kuibyshev and Kalachinsk.

The main tributaries are two rivers named Itscha ( Ича ), once in the upper reaches, once opening into the middle reaches, and Kama ( Кама ) and Tartas ( Тартас ), all from the right.

Hydrographic

The catchment area comprises 52,600 km ² of Om. In estuaries nearby ( level Omsk ), the average discharge of 51.16 m³ / s ( minimum in March with 4.94 m³ / s, the maximum in June with 156.82 m³ / s). In the lower reaches of the river to 120 m wide, 2 m deep, the flow velocity is 0.3 m / s

The Om freezes from late October / early November to April / early May.

Infrastructure and use

At high water level of the river is navigable from Kuibyshev, but is not an official inland waterway. Parallel to the middle and lower reaches of the river runs the Trans-Siberian Railway.
