Om Yun-chol

Om Yun- chol ( born November 18, 1991, Province Hamgyŏng - pukto ) is a North Korean weightlifter. He was Olympic champion in 2012 and 2013 world champion bantamweight

Career

The 1.52 meter tall athlete starts in the bantamweight class that has its weight limit at 56 kg. He first appeared in June 2011 at an international championship when he took part in Penang at the Junior World Championship. In bantamweight he came here in a duel to 271 kg ( 115-156 ) and thus placing 4th. Standout here was his performance in pushing, where he won the Junior Wekltmeistertitel with your accomplished by him 156 kg. In November 2011 he took part in the Senior World Championships in Paris. He was there but not in a good shape. He managed there in a duel with only one attempt in the snatch a valid and jerk 267 kg ( 115-152 ) and landed on the 6th Place. He had it lucky that he this burden on the third attempt just managed after two failed attempts at 152 kg in bumping.

Very well prepared appeared Om Yun -Chol at the Olympic Games 2012 in London. He scored there in a duel 293 kg ( 125-168 ) and thus became Olympic champion in front of the Chinese Wu Jingbiao, the 289 kg ( 133-156 ) and the Azerbaijanis Valentin Hristov, who reached 286 kg ( 127-159 ). Crucial to his Olympic victory was his hervorrgande power in pushing, where he set the world record of Halil Mutlu 168 kg.

In June 2013 Om Yun -Chol won at the Asian Championship in Astana. He reached this bantamweight 286 kg ( 126-160 ). He pointed so that the two Vietnamese Thach Kim Tuan, 281 kg ( 125-156 ) and Tran Le Quoc Toan and 275 kg ( 120-155 ) to the places. A month before the World Cup, he scored in September 2013 at the Asia Cup (Inter Club Weightliftign - Championships ) in Pyongyang with his victory in the duel 289 kg ( 120-169 ) and improved it in pushing the world record of Halil Mutlu by 1 kg. At the World Championships in 2013 in Wroclaw he managed in a duel 289 kg ( 127-162 ) and became World Champion in front of Long Qingquan, China, 287 kg ( 130-157 ) and Thach Kim Tuan, 283 kg ( 126-157 ). After his first attempt in pushing with 162 kg he tried to improve on 170 kg in his second attempt his own world record. He injured his but when ejected and could not make a third attempt.
