Omar Abu Risha

Omar Abu Rischa (Arabic عمر أبو ريشة; born April 10, 1908 in Manbidsch; † July 15, 1990 in Jeddah ) was a Syrian diplomat and poet.

Life

Omar Abu Rischa attended the University of Damascus and from 1991, the American University of Beirut. Later, he studied chemistry at the University of Manchester. On his return to Syria he produced literary works; then he was employed as a librarian in Aleppo.

From 1949 to 1953 he was ambassador in Rio de Janeiro. From 1953 to 1954 he was ambassador in Buenos Aires and at the same time accredited to the government in Santiago de Chile. From 1954 to 1959 he was ambassador in New Delhi. From 1959 to 1961 he was Ambassador of the United Arab Republic in Vienna. From December 1961 to 1964 he was ambassador in Washington DC. Between 1964 and 1970 he was once more again ambassador in New Delhi. His poetic works include several volumes and dramas.
