Omar Amiralay

Omar Amiralay (* 1944 in Damascus, Syria, † February 5, 2011 in Damascus ) was a Syrian filmmaker. He was considered one of the leading documentary filmmakers in the Arab world. He turned and published documentaries about the corrupt state apparatus, whose charisma was banned in Syria. Omar Amiralay died 5 February 2011 of a heart attack.

At the film festival in Berlin from 1976, he won the Inter Film Award - Otto Dibelius Film Award.
