Omer Madison Kem

Omer Madison Kem ( born November 13, 1855 in Hagerstown, Wayne County, Indiana, † February 13, 1942 in Cottage Grove, Oregon ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the third and 1893-1897 the sixth electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Omer Kem attended the public schools of his home. In 1882 he moved to the Custer County, Nebraska, where he settled as a farmer. Politically, he joined the movement emerged from the Farmer Populist Party. Between 1890 and 1891 he was treasurer in Custer County.

1890 Kem was selected in the third district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of George Dorsey on March 4, 1891. After he was confirmed in each case in the following elections in office, he could implement his mandate in Congress until March 3, 1897. He was since the elections of 1892 Member of the newly created sixth constituency. In 1896, he did not stand for election.

After the end of his time in Congress Omer Kem moved to the vicinity of Montrose, Colorado. There he worked in the fruit growing and cattle breeding. In 1907 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Colorado. Soon after, he moved to Cottage Grove in Oregon, where he worked until 1922 in the energy sector. Here, he was particularly interested in the power supply and the power plants. From 1922 he lived in retirement.
