ÅŒmihachiman, Shiga

Omihachiman (Japanese近 江 八 幡 市, -shi ) is a city in Shiga Prefecture in Japan. The city's name is composed of the name of the former province Ōmi ( meaning: " Near Bay " ) and the name of the shrine and related God Hachiman. The town is one of the island Okishima (冲 岛).

History

On 3 March 1933, the Mura Utsuro (宇 津 吕 村, -mura ) and on 1 April 1951, the Mura Shima (岛村, -mura ) in Gamo -gun (蒲 生 郡) in the Chō Hachiman (八 幡 町, chō ) incorporated in the same gun.

The appointment to Shi under the name Omihachiman took place on March 31, 1954 with the merger of Chō Hachiman, and the Mura Kaneda (金 田村, -mura ), Kirihara (桐 原 村, -mura ), Mafuchi (马 渊 村, -mura ) and Okayama (冈山 村, -mura ) in Gamo -gun.

On March 3, 1955 Kitasato was (北 里 村, -mura ) (武 佐 村, -mura ) incorporated in Yasu -gun, and on February 1, 1958 Musa in Gamo -gun in the city.
