OMNeT

OMNeT is a simulation framework, simulated with the computer networks and network protocols and performance analysis can be performed. For private and academic use the framework is available free of charge under open source license. In addition to a graphical user interface an Eclipse-based development environment for programming is provided.

Although OMNeT itself was programmed in C , it is possible to use other programming languages such as Java and C # to develop their own modules. This can be simulated in conjunction with pre- finished standard modules to check their cooperation. A module can be for example a network protocol such as IP or a hardware component such as a switch. The simulation of the modules are discrete event -based.

Common applications are to simulate novel real-time Ethernet networks in automation technology environments or in the field of multimedia streaming before they are produced in hardware.

Supported Platforms

The framework can run on Linux and other Unix -based systems, Mac OS X and Windows XP, 2000, Vista and Windows 7
