Ömnögovi Province

The Ömnö Gobi Aimag (Mongolian Өмнөговь Аймаг, South Gobi aimag ) is an aimag ( province ) of Mongolia, located in the south of the country in the Gobi Desert, on the Chinese border. The capital is Dalandsadgad.

Ömnö Gobi is home to several famous tourist attractions such as the flaming rock from Bayanzag, the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park and the singing sands of Chongoryn Els

Economy

The aimag is rich in mineral resources such as coal, gold and copper. At the beginning of the 21st century great efforts to develop the infrastructure to be made in order to tap the rich natural resources of Tawan Tolgoi (coal) and also Ojuu Tolgoi (copper, gold) can. In addition to mining here dominates the livestock (400,000 goats, 290,000 sheep, 130,000 camels, 70,000 horses). 7,000 tonnes of camel's hair, and 130 tons of cashmere wool are exported annually.

Traffic

The Dalandsadgad Airport ( ZMDZ / DLZ ) has a dirt runway and since 2007 also a tarmac runway. It is served by regular flights from and to Ulan Bator. Throughout the aimag, there are also private airports in the districts Chanbogd and Tsogttsetsii that were built in connection with the mining projects Tawan Tolgoi or Ojuu Tolgoi and are served by domestic airlines Eznis Airways and Aero Mongolia.
