Omukama

Omukama (plural Bakama ) of the title for rulers of several pre-colonial states is in the range of the African Lake Victoria in the countries of Uganda and Tanzania. (O) Mukama means something like: Supreme milk donors.

In today's Tanzania Omukama was a title used in the various former small kingdoms of Buhaya in the Kagera region in the west of the lake up to the Bukerebe on the island Ukerewe in the south.

Although the kingdoms in Uganda meet no more state functions, the Omukama play because of their traditional authority to this day a special role in Uganda. So it is to be understood that the Ugandan government again in 1994 officially introduced and recognized the defunct since 1967 kingdoms.
